Stender and Lance debate, but say little about the districts local needs. “Almost everything they talked about was the same as we’re hearing from the presidential candidates. But then this district has such different communities, from pretty wealthy to poor, I suppose it’s hard to talk about specifics in such a short amount of time.” That is a quote by Ashley De Shields, a senior in high school who attended the debate. When it is apparent to high school students that the candidates are flinging party line rhetoric, there is a problem. These candidates are avoiding the issues that most affect their potential constituency most.

Stender opposes the bush bailout. What shouldn't the government invest in? According to Stender, bailouts for Wall Street investors, who she said are largely responsible for the current financial crisis in the first place. Instead, the focus should be on helping average people to keep their homes and pay their bills, she said.
