Did you know that Michigan is one of only six states nationally with a "flat" income tax? This means that, when you consider sales and property taxes as well, working families in Michigan pay signficantly more of their disposable income in taxes than do wealthier residents. The Michigan Leadership Workshop (a Working Families Win project) therefore commends Governor Granholm for recommending a constitutional amendment to achieve a graduated (otherwise known as "progressive") income tax for Michigan residents:
