RESIDENTS SPEAK OUT ON THE ECONOMY: Community Forum to Highlight Real
Life Stories and Provide Tools for Change
Tired of politicians providing little more than lip service on issues
affecting you and your family? Then the “Real Life in the Real
Economy” forum may be for you.
This one-of-a-kind community event will provide community members with
the opportunity to:
• Share how today’s broken economy is affecting their lives and the
lives of their loved ones
• Challenge candidates and elected officials to deliver on real
answers to the economic problems facing our families, our community,
and our country
• Learn how to make candidates and elected officials more answerable
to our concerns, not just the concerns of powerful special interests
The idea for the forum developed from a project initiated by Battle
Creek City Commissioner Ryan Hersha, in which he asked community
members from all walks of life to tell their own stories about life in
today’s economy.
“These stories tell a powerful story,” said Hersha. “People who’ve
worked hard and played by the rules their whole lives are being pushed
to the economic precipice – and many are falling over the edge.
Together, the stories represent an urgent call for change.”
The forum, which is sponsored by the Working Families Win campaign, will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 26 at Lakeview
High School.
No RSVP is required; however residents are encouraged to continue
sharing their “Real Life in the Real Economy” stories with
Commissioner Hersha between now and the forum by emailing him at
ryan@hersha.org.
Working Families Win, a non-profit and non-partisan organization, works
to change the economy in favor of working families, provides education
about economic decisions made in Washington and the impacts within our
local communities, and engages individuals through neighbor to neighbor
communication to hold our elected officials accountable.
