Urgent Action Needed to Save Health Care Reform

Nothing scares the health insurance lobby like the prospect of real competition. So it is no surprise that they are pushing hard to undermine Americans' access to a public health insurance plan option under health care reform.

Their latest tactic? A so-called "trigger" scheme being floated in Congress that would delay the establishment of the public option on a state-by-state basis until the private insurance market becomes even more concentrated.

Let's be clear: the "trigger" scheme is nothing more than an attempt to deny the American people their choice of health care plans. The "trigger" scheme would allow our current health care system to worsen further in the years ahead as the insurance lobby consolidates its power in Washington, so that real health care reform never happens.

We must ensure that the "trigger" scheme itself never happens. Health care reform that includes the "trigger" scheme is not health care reform at all.

Please call Senator Stabenow TODAY, thank her for her support of the public option, and urge her to advocate strongly with her colleagues against the "trigger" scheme. (Senator Stabenow serves on the Senate Finance Committee, which holds hearings on health care reform this week.)

To leave a message for Senator Stabenow, call (202) 224-4822. You may also email her at senator@stabenow.senate.gov.

Thank you for your continued leadership on behalf of Michigan's working families!
